GCSE Summer Booster Programme
WELCOME
GCSE Summer Booster for Years 10 and 11 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Mathematics:
Our Summer Booster programme is targeted at students who are about to start their GCSEs or those who are just about to enter the final year of GCSE study. The programme is suitable for students who already attend The Local Teachers tuition or another tuition centre, but equally, it is designed to be free-standing and suitable for any Year 9 or 10 students who are looking for a boost before the next academic year.
The programme is delivered by qualified, subject specialists who have detailed knowledge of a range of examination boards and their demands, including AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
The focus will be on the core subjects of English (Language and Literature), Mathematics and Science and will include:
- Overview of each curriculum area – English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
- Overview of the assessment process, in terms of examinations and mark schemes.
- Assessment of existing skills and areas for development.
- Study skills for success.
- Help students to become more effective working on their own
The approach of each course is to identify gaps in syllabus required knowledge and skills so that steps can be taken to address these, and to teach students how to work on their own – the key to academic success. The online support will mean that students can also work independently to consolidate and accelerate learning. This will be crucial for students that need a bit more time to progress through the course.
The online activity will generate comprehensive assessment records so that tutors know exactly how to help students. In addition to online assessment there will be numerous opportunities to complete written assessments that are structured to create a similar environment to exam questions.
The learning records will be used to provide regular reports (every second week) detailing learning hours and the achievement of students. This will track progress against the course scheme of work. A final report will provide consolidate details and confirm completion of the course and the attainment achieved. A certificate will be provided for students complete the scheme of work.
Following the completion of the courses there will be options will be available for students to remain on our programme until exams. For home-schooling, students can continue from September onwards to prepare for the full GCSE with the excellent support provided by The Local Teachers.
