Terms and Conditions

Parents can expect from The Local Teachers to create safe environments for children and young people through robust safeguarding practices, ensure that adults who work for us, including volunteers, don’t pose a risk to children, to make sure staff are trained, know how to respond to concerns and keep-up-to-date with policy and practice, teach children and young people about staying safe and finally to maintain an environment where children feel confident to approach any member of staff if they have a worry or problem.

Introduction

The Local Teachers reserves the right to alter these terms and conditions. Unless otherwise agreed in writing by a Director of The Local Teachers, these terms and conditions shall prevail over any other terms of business or conditions put forward by the Client. No variation or alteration of these terms and conditions shall be valid unless approved in writing by a Director of The Local Teachers.

By Accessing and Using The Local Teachers’ Website or Services you agree the following terms and conditions. These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United Kingdom.

Structured courses

Admissions Policy

We want to ensure that you only enrol on courses that are suitable for you. If you are applying for higher level courses, you will be expected to have previously obtained four GCSEs at Grade C and above or an equivalent qualification. Some higher-level subjects require prior knowledge of the subject, which is why you will need to be 11 years of age to enrol on a KS3 qualification and 13 years of age to enrol on to a GCSE qualification.

Examinations

It is your responsibility to ensure that you find an examination centre and enter for your exam in good time, but our Examinations Officer will give you all the help possible to organise this.

What does the fee cover?

  • A complete set of the course study packs
  • Full tutor support including:
    • Marking of all assignments
    • Written answers to specific study problems
    • 6 months of weekly lessons – the length of which depends upon the course in question, and agreements made by both parties – from the start date agreed upon by both parties
  • 1 year of access to the course that has been purchased from the start date agreed upon by both parties

What is not covered by the fee?

  • Additional textbooks
  • Examination entry fee, unless otherwise stated/agreed upon
  • Delivery outside the UK mainland
  • Tutor support from 6 months beyond the start date agreed upon by both parties (further fees apply)

Deferrals

When we receive your application, your Student Adviser will contact you to finalise the details of the course fees, delivery of the course materials, etc. Your Student Adviser will also agree on examination dates with you.  If during your course you need to change your proposed examination date, you must contact us as soon as possible. In most cases, it is possible for students to defer but this is always at the discretion of The Local Teachers and fees may be incurred.

Cancellation/Termination

You may cancel all or part of your programme of study at any time before you receive your course materials and you will receive a refund of all amounts paid except the registration fee.

During the first 14 days after the start date agreed upon by both parties, you may cancel your course in writing and return the course materials to The Local Teachers at your own expense. Provided we receive the course materials in good condition, you will receive a refund of all amounts paid minus 1) the registration fee and 2) the cost of lessons delivered within this period within the next 21 days.

In cases where a direct debit has been set up, requests to cancel may be made whenever the client chooses. However, if a request is made after the 23rd of the month, then the next month’s payment will also be taken before cancellation.

Not for resale

The teaching materials are provided to an individual as a complete package.  No part of that package, be it the tutor support or physical materials, may be resold or passed on to a third party.

Private Tuition

Find high quality one-to-one tuition at affordable prices. Our tutors aren’t just subject experts. They are also role models, mentors and coaches. Young, bright and successful, they have a strong understanding of the contemporary curriculum and the academic pressures today’s students face. Excellent communication skills are vital for effective teaching – which is why we interview every tutor as part of our selection process.

How to make payment online

Making payment is simple. Just login to your account, click on the Pay button, complete the payment form with your card details and submit the form to make your payment.
If you have a User Account and are logged in to make the payment, you will have the option to save your credit card details, so that you can simply select your card details for future invoice payments.

Cancellation/Termination

Students can cancel their tuition up to 72 hours prior to when the lesson is due to start at no cost. If the tuition is cancelled within less than 72 hours’ notice, we reserve the right to charge the full price of the tuition that was booked.

In cases where a direct debit has been set up, you can cancel at any time with a cancellation request submitted in writing 7 days before the next payment is due. For example, for payments due on the first day of the month, parents must send their cancellation request in writing before the 23rd of the current month. Otherwise, the next month’s payment will also be taken before cancellation and is non-refundable. This payment, while not refundable, may be used for subscriptions to other courses/used for other lessons if it is claimed within 3 months of the date the payment was due.

Clients wishing to pause their termination will find it advantageous to request a “freeze”, rather than a termination, as this will only result in a small fee (relative to the course/package that was purchased). However, the cost of this freeze will be lower than a fresh registration.

Refunds

To request refund where appropriate, you must put your request in writing and send us by email to billing@thelocalteachers.co.uk and include all your details i.e. your full name, sort code number and account number. If your is accepted. It will be processed within 21 days of receipt of your refund request (subject to the time scales imposed by the respective banking clearing systems). Refunds shall only be provided in respect of credits purchased less than 3 months prior to the refund request. No refunds shall be permitted in respect of credits purchased more than 3 months prior to the refund request.
